The Candle of Peace

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned . . . For to us a child is born, to us a son is given . . . He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of His government and peace there will be no end.”

Today we light the candle of PEACE and we prepare our hearts for the King:

The call of Advent is one of preparation. Mary prepared the manger. The Magi prepared gifts. Sheep were abandoned while their caretakers bowed before the Lord, the Great Shepherd of His sheep.

While the world beckons us after the lust of the flesh and the pride of life, Christians know that the peace of God is found not in striving, but surrender. The gift of Christ’s peace can only be received by those with empty hands. Let every heart prepare Him room.

Holy Spirit, help us ruthlessly eliminate greed, hurry, idolatry, pride, and immorality, and heed the words of John the Baptist: “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him . . . bear fruit in keeping with repentance . . . Yes, YOU Jesus, must become greater, I must become less. Clear away the chaff as you baptize us with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”
